The second annual Community Policing Awards hosted by the Avon and Somerset Constabulary and Police Authority were held on March 5, 2009. The event was held at the Cadbury House Hotel in Somerset.
Officers and staff were joined by Chief Constable Colin Port, Dr Moira Hamlin Chair of the Police Authority and Sir Ken Jones QPM, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers to celebrate the best of the best across the constabulary.
The five award categories, designed to recognise the exceptional contribution that individuals and teams make to their local communities, honour employees who continually go the extra mile to help reduce crime and improve the quality of life for residents in the neighbourhoods they serve.
Award recipients and guests alike enjoyed a delicious meal before the award ceremony commenced with the overall force winners across the five awards being announced.
The ceremony, compered Rob Stokes, Deputy Editor of the Bristol Evening Post, commenced with CC Colin Port presenting the Neighbourhood Beat Manager of the Year Award to PC Andrew Cox from Bristol.
Sir Ken Jones then took to the stage to award Special Constable of the Year to Matthew Isaacs from Bristol and Christopher Purvey, from Keynsham, was presented Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) of the Year by Dr Hamlin.
Chief Constable Colin Port said: “We are keen to ensure that the needs of the community are at the heart of policing here in Avon and Somerset. Both staff and officers are working hard to form strong links with their communities and partner agencies to tackle the things that really matter to local residents.
“All the awards here tonight highlight the excellent work that takes place within the community teams. This year’s judges had a difficult job selecting the district and force winners from all of the entries.
Dr Hamlin said “I am so pleased with this evenings awards, it was a really eexciting event. The awards are so special as nominations came from members of the public.

WELL DONE CHRIS!
It’s always nice to see his face outside the school when I collect my daughters.
His attitude towards community policing makes this especially deserved.
